African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Peter Obi has revealed plots about party insiders allegedly working to thwart his emergence as the 2027 presidential candidate.
In a video clip seen by Truth Live News on Sunday, features Obi stating that “there are people fighting within the party that I do not emerge as the candidate of the party… Making sure I leave with nothing.”
Obi formally defected to the ADC in late 2025, positioning the party as a key platform for a broad opposition coalition aimed at challenging President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
The move followed high-profile defections, including those by former Kano Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, former ministers, and other political heavyweights. ADC National Chairman Senator David Mark and figures like Rauf Aregbesola have been central to the realignment.
The party has since seen internal buzz, with some members and supporters openly pushing for Obi as the presidential flagbearer. Yet tensions have surfaced, including debates over ticket zoning, primary processes, and external pressures from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Obi has previously alleged that federal authorities are working to hinder strong opposition candidates and has stressed the need for transparent primaries.
