A serious leadership crisis has engulfed the Keffi Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) as aggrieved members have formally launched efforts to suspend the current Executive Committee and establish an interim caretaker committee.
In a notice of requisition dated February 25, 2026, addressed to the Branch Secretary at the High Court Complex in Keffi, the group invoked provisions of the NBA Uniform Bye-Laws (2020, as amended) and the Association’s Constitution to call for an extraordinary congress.
According to Daily Post, Truth Live News learnt that the signatories cited multiple alleged irregularities arising from the January general meeting and an emergency congress convened on February 20, 2026.
According to the notice, the January meeting was postponed to February 19, yet members received an invitation on the same day for an emergency congress set for noon on February 20, ostensibly to nominate members of the Electoral Committee.
The requisitionists accused the Executive Committee of convening the emergency meeting outside stipulated time limits and proceeding with nominations despite strong objections from members questioning the propriety of handling such matters in an emergency session.
They further alleged that the Branch Chairman overruled a point of order, citing constitutional provisions, and proceeded to read out names for nomination into the Electoral Committee amid protests from the floor.
Additional grievances included claims that the Branch Secretary presided over deliberations of the Constitution, Legal and Human Rights Committee despite reportedly being absent from the congress and lacking the required capacity to do so.
The group also contended that the minutes of the February 20 meeting failed to accurately reflect proceedings and were not properly circulated to members. They asserted that individuals purportedly nominated into the Electoral Committee were sworn in post-congress despite alleged rejection by attendees.
The notice concluded that the current Executive Committee “cannot function and conduct an election within the time frame provided by law,” expressing alarm over the lack of clear plans for an annual general meeting.
The requisition has triggered preparations for a congress to deliberate on the allegations and consider suspension of the executives pending resolution.
