The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, as public holidays to commemorate this year’s Eid al-Adha celebration.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, in Abuja on Monday.
According to the statement, the declaration reflects the Federal Government’s recognition of the spiritual importance of Eid al-Adha to millions of Muslims in Nigeria and across the world. The minister described the festival as a period that symbolizes sacrifice, obedience to God, faith, and compassion toward others.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo also extended warm greetings to Muslim faithful in Nigeria and in the diaspora, urging citizens to use the holiday period for prayers and peaceful reflection. He encouraged Nigerians to seek divine guidance for the nation as it continues its pursuit of peace, security, and national development.
