Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has directed the immediate resumption of the hybrid payment system at the country’s airport gates, a move aimed at easing the persistent challenges faced by passengers during the boarding process starting from Friday 13th of March.
The directive which was announced on Wednesday, 11 of March, comes amid growing complaints from travelers over payment difficulties at various airports across the nation, particularly at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The hybrid payment system, which allows passengers to pay applicable fees and charges using both cash and electronic payment platforms, had previously been suspended or inconsistently implemented at several airport gates, leaving many travelers stranded or delayed.
According to reports gathered by Truth Live News International, Keyamo’s directive mandates that all airport gate officials and relevant agencies reinstate the dual-payment framework without further delay, ensuring that no passenger is denied boarding or subjected to undue hardship due to payment modality constraints.
The minister emphasized that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and other relevant stakeholders must ensure full compliance with the directive across all designated international and domestic terminals.
He stressed that the seamless movement of passengers remains a top priority for the current administration, and that any official found frustrating the process would face disciplinary action. He further called on airport management to deploy adequate point-of-sale terminals and ensure reliable internet connectivity to support electronic transactions.
The resumption of the hybrid payment system is seen as part of a wider reform agenda being championed by Minister Keyamo to modernize Nigerian airports and bring them in line with international standards.
