Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has congratulated Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Oyinkansola Badejo Okusanya, on her election as the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), describing her victory as a landmark achievement for the legal profession.
In a statement issued on Monday, July 27, 2026, Sanwo-Olu said Badejo Okusanya’s emergence as only the second woman to lead the NBA reflects her decades of dedication, professionalism and commitment to the rule of law.
“Congratulations to Oyinkansola Badejo Okusanya, SAN, on her historic election as the President of the Nigerian Bar Association.
“Becoming only the second female president in the history of the NBA is no small feat and is a well deserved milestone.
“Over the years, she has built a reputation for excellence, legal precision and an unwavering commitment to the rule of law.
“Her rise to the leadership of the Bar reflects decades of hard work and relentless dedication to justice,” the governor said.
Sanwo-Olu described her election as a proud moment for the legal profession and an inspiration to young women across Lagos and Nigeria aspiring to occupy leadership positions.
He expressed confidence that her tenure would provide visionary leadership and strengthen the administration of justice in the country.
“I have full confidence that her tenure will bring visionary leadership and advance the cause of justice in our society.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Lagos State, I wish her a successful and impactful term in office,” he added.
Badejo Okusanya won the 2026 Nigerian Bar Association national officers’ election after securing 12,317 votes, representing 47.18 per cent of the total votes cast.
She defeated her closest challenger, Lateef Akangbe, SAN, who polled 7,934 votes, while Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN, received 5,855 votes.
She will serve a two year term from 2026 to 2028, succeeding outgoing NBA President Afam Osigwe.
Badejo Okusanya becomes only the second woman to lead the association after Priscilla Kuye, who served as the NBA’s first female president between 1991 and 1992.
