Lucky Obukohwo Reporting
Tension reportedly erupted in Benue State on Tuesday morning after suspected thugs allegedly blocked a major road, preventing the convoy of former Anambra State governor and 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi from proceeding further into the state.
Obi’s media aide, Esther Umoh, disclosed the development in posts on X, where she shared videos purportedly showing the blocked road and individuals allegedly involved in the incident.
According to Umoh, the confrontation occurred shortly after Obi and his entourage arrived in Benue State, disrupting their movement and heightening concerns over the security situation surrounding the visit.
“We have just arrived in Benue State, where alleged sponsored thugs have blocked Boko Road by the Air Force Base, attempting to prevent Peter Obi from gaining access into the state,” the social media post reads.
In a second post, Umoh shared videos of the incident with the caption, “This is madness.”
The videos have gone viral, with varying reactions from netizens on X.
As of the time of filing this report, Obi’s team has not issued a statement on the development.
