Trouble For Tinubu as Arewa APC Forum Withdraws Support for Second-Term Bid

The Arewa APC Forum, Kano State Chapter, has formally announced the withdrawal of its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term bid, citing widespread criticisms of nepotism, incompetence, and corruption in his administration.

In an official press statement dated 17 April 2026 and signed by its Chairman, Dr. Sallah Hakilu Kibiya, the Forum stated:

“The Arewa APC Forum, Kano State Chapter, hereby formally announces the withdrawal of its support for the second-term bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

The statement, titled “Announcement of Withdrawal of Support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Second-Term Bid,” explained that the decision followed “extensive consultations and careful reflection on the direction of governance at the federal level.”

It added, “The Forum has resolved that it can no longer, in good conscience, continue to lend support to an administration widely criticised for nepotism, incompetence, and corruption.”

The group emphasised the need for leadership that inspires confidence and upholds core values, declaring, “We believe that leadership must inspire confidence, uphold fairness, and demonstrate a sincere commitment to national unity, institutional integrity, and responsible governance. Where these values are persistently undermined, silence becomes complicity.”

The Forum further clarified its position, “Accordingly, the Arewa APC Forum in Kano State wishes to make it clear that its confidence in the current political direction has been withdrawn, and its members are advised to act in line with this position in all future engagements.”

The statement concluded on a broader note of public interest, “This statement is issued in the public interest and in defence of democratic accountability, good governance, and the collective aspirations of the Nigerian people.”

The development comes as a significant blow to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the North, particularly in Kano, a key political stronghold.
