Wike’s PDP Faction Inspects Abuja Venue Ahead of Planned March Convention

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has moved decisively to hold its own national convention, inspecting a proposed venue in Abuja amid the party’s ongoing leadership crisis.

On Tuesday, members of the faction’s National Caretaker Working Committee, led by Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed and National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, conducted an on-site inspection of the selected location for the convention scheduled for March 29 and 30, 2026.

Truth Live News reports that the move comes in the wake of recent court rulings that have deepened divisions within the PDP. The faction loyal to Wike views the earlier PDP national convention held in Ibadan in November 2025 as invalid, following supportive judgments from higher courts nullifying its outcomes.

The proposed venue is reported to be near the National Stadium in Abuja (specifically the Velodrome of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in some accounts), chosen partly as an alternative to Eagle Square, which is slated for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) national convention around the same period.

This development signals the Wike-backed group’s determination to elect new party executives independently, potentially escalating the PDP’s internal rift between factions associated with Wike and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.

The inspection visit shows efforts to finalize logistics for what the faction describes as a legitimate path forward for the opposition party.

No direct quotes from Wike or the inspecting officials were featured in the report, but the action highlights the faction’s commitment to proceeding with its planned event despite competing claims over the party’s leadership.
