Zamfara Hisbah Arrests Woman Over Alleged Witchcraft Practices

The Zamfara State Hisbah Commission has arrested a woman identified as Khadija Abdullah in the Gadar Baga area of Gusau over allegations of engaging in witchcraft-related activities.

The arrest followed complaints from community leaders who accused the suspect of conducting spiritual practices at her residence.

The security operatives raided the house based on the reports, according to a statement issued on Tuesday by the commission’s Public Relations Officer, Umar Haruna Tsafe.

The Director of Operations, Lawal Abubakar Maradun, revealed that during interrogation, Khadija Abdullah admitted to using certain perfumes and claiming spirit possession, after which she would recite prayers into water and administer it to people seeking treatment.

Another woman, Asiya Lawal, found at the residence, told officials she had visited for treatment of a spiritual ailment.

A resident noted that the house had become a popular destination for individuals seeking traditional or spiritual remedies, both day and night.

The Chairman of the Zamfara State Hisbah Commission, Sheikh Umar Hassan Gusau, has directed that investigations be intensified to verify the allegations and determine appropriate action.

This incident reflects the commission’s ongoing efforts to enforce moral and religious standards in the state.
