Leicester City’s talented striker and the 2013 Fifa U17 Golden Ball winner, Kelechi Iheanacho, will soon find himself in the last six months of his contract with the Foxes, come January 2024. As the transfer window looms, Leicester City faces a tough battle to retain the services of their valuable striker.
According to reports from TEAMtalk, several clubs have shown interest in signing Iheanacho, with Brentford emerging as a potential suitor. West Ham United and Crystal Palace, both based in London, are also keen on securing the Nigerian’s signature.
Brentford, in particular, may be in the market for a striker during the January transfer window, especially if Ivan Toney, one of their star forwards, decides to depart the club. Iheanacho has been identified as a possible replacement for Toney, whose situation has garnered attention from other Premier League clubs, including Arsenal and Chelsea.
Leicester City, however, has encountered difficulties in the initial talks to extend Iheanacho’s contract, raising concerns that they could lose the prolific striker on a free transfer at the end of the current season.
Iheanacho has been in remarkable form recently, notably scoring in five consecutive matches, both for his club and the Nigerian national team. One of his standout goals, a strike in a 3-0 victory against Preston North on October 4, is currently among the eight nominees for Leicester City’s Goal of the Month for October 2023.
The Super Eagles star’s goal came fourteen minutes from time when he skillfully tapped home a cross delivered by his international teammate, Wilfred Ndidi.
The competition for Leicester City’s Goal of the Month also includes nominations for Jamie Vardy and Aimee Palmer, who are double nominees, along with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Abdul Fatawu, and Harry Winks. The race for this accolade demonstrates the Foxes’ attacking prowess and the tremendous goal-scoring talent they possess.
