CALABAR, CROSS RIVER – Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, has described former Minister of Finance, Etubom Anthony Ani, as a model of integrity, discipline and selfless public service, saying his legacy continues to inspire a new generation of leaders and professionals as he marks his 90th birthday.

In a goodwill message issued on Saturday by his Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Linus Obogo, the governor said Ani’s life represented an enduring example of principled leadership, intellectual excellence and unwavering commitment to nation-building.

Otu said the nonagenarian’s 90th birthday was more than a personal milestone, describing it as a celebration of a lifetime dedicated to honour, patriotism and faithful service to Nigeria.

“This remarkable anniversary is not merely the commemoration of a life measured in years, but the celebration of an enduring legacy fashioned by uncommon brilliance, unwavering integrity, disciplined service and an abiding devotion to the Nigerian project,” the governor said.

The governor noted that Ani earned a distinguished place in Nigeria’s history through decades of exemplary service as former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, former Minister of Finance, former Chairman of KPMG, former President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), and as a respected traditional ruler.

“Your distinguished career, spanning the commanding heights of public service and the pinnacle of professional excellence, has etched your name indelibly into the annals of our national history,” Otu stated.

He added that throughout Ani’s public service, he demonstrated “uncommon diligence, quiet strength, impeccable character and visionary leadership,” leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire confidence in public service.

The governor further described the Odukpani-born elder statesman as one of Cross River State’s most accomplished sons, saying his contributions had transcended public office and continued to shape future generations.

“Your life has become a beacon whose radiance transcends generations, illuminating the path for young professionals, public servants and future leaders who seek to serve with honour, courage and distinction,” he said.

Otu also commended Ani’s leadership as the Clan Head of Mbiabo Ikoneto, noting that he had remained a custodian of Cross River’s cultural heritage while exemplifying integrity, wisdom and service.

According to the governor, the elder statesman’s life demonstrates that true leadership is measured not by titles but by the lives touched, institutions strengthened and values passed on to future generations.

As Ani joins the league of nonagenarians, Otu said his remarkable journey offers enduring lessons in resilience, excellence and responsible leadership, urging Nigerians to emulate his commitment to integrity and professionalism.

The governor prayed for God’s continued grace, good health and strength upon the former finance minister, expressing hope that his legacy would continue to enrich Cross River State, strengthen Nigeria and inspire generations yet unborn.
