CALABAR – The Cross River State Government is moving to establish a more coordinated communications structure, with media appointees directed to prioritise accuracy, discipline and responsible storytelling in projecting government policies and programmes.

Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Pastor Ekpenyong Ene Cobham, gave the directive on Wednesday at the inaugural Media and Communications Cluster Meeting of the Bassey Otu administration in Calabar.

Cobham said government communicators must move beyond individual efforts and operate as a cohesive unit to ensure consistency and strategic coordination in communicating the administration’s development agenda.

He stressed the importance of discipline, accuracy and responsible storytelling, charging the appointees to approach their duties with greater professionalism.

According to him, the meeting was convened to foster synergy among government media and communications personnel and strengthen the structure through which the administration communicates its programmes and policies.

Cobham said effective government communication required collaboration rather than isolated efforts, urging the appointees to work together in advancing the administration’s communication objectives.

The Commissioner’s position places greater emphasis on coordinated messaging among the various media and communications personnel serving the state government.

The meeting brought together media and communications appointees across the administration to discuss ways of improving cooperation and strengthening the communication of government activities.

Cobham’s directive also underscores the importance of accuracy in public communication, particularly in presenting government policies and programmes to citizens.

He urged the appointees to ensure that their storytelling remained responsible while effectively communicating the administration’s development agenda.

The meeting, described as the first Media and Communications Cluster Meeting of the Otu administration, is expected to provide a platform for greater coordination among government communicators.

The development was contained in a statement issued by Saviour Asuquo, Special Assistant to the Governor on Content Development, Cross River State.
