A new source has established that the microphone that rapper Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar Cephus, better known by her stage name Cardi B, threw at a fan at a show in Las Vegas in July has been sold on eBay for the price of $99,000.
The proprietor of a business that rents out audio equipment, Scott Fisher, put the microphone up for sale on Tuesday.
Fisher, who talked with CBS News, stated that the earnings from the sale will be donated to three different charities. These charities are the veterans’ charity, the Wounded Warrior Project, and the Friendship Circle Las Vegas, which is a programme that connects young volunteers with people who have disabilities and special needs.
“I figured it would gain some attention nationally, but the amount of news coverage has been staggering,” Fisher said. “I figured it would gain some attention internationally as well.”
Fisher also claimed that he was able to confirm that the mic was the one that Cardi threw at the concert-goer. Before soundcheck, it is customary to label each microphone and in-ear monitoring device with the name of the person who will be using them during the performance. This is done to ensure that the same individual will have access to the appropriate equipment throughout the event.
“You could see white tape on the Cardi B mic in all of the videos, and that is how we knew which mic was hers.”
Cardi B made news after a video surfaced online showing the “Bodak Yellow” hitmaker throwing her microphone at a concertgoer in response to the concertgoer throwing a drink at her as she was performing at an event in Las Vegas.
