Armed men believed by eyewitnesses to be robbers swooped on Point of Sale (POS) centres in Nnobi, Anambra State, carting away large sums of money, cellular phones, laptops, teller machines among other things.
The hoodlums who moved with Lexus 350 holding guns stormed the place between 8 and 9 am in on Thursday.
Eyewitnesses said the armed robbers who wore masks arrived the Olutex Communcatios, a POS operating center, otherwise known as Hope Bank at Nkpor Road Axis, Nnobi Junction at 8.50 am, shouting everybody lie down as they kicked their way into the POS center where they collected handsets, POS machines, money and other things from victims before leaving for another POS center along Nnewi Road axis of the Nnobi Junction where they also stole money, handsets and laptop before leaving through the Awka-Etiti-Ekwulobia Road of the Junction.
The incident happened amid scarcity of newly redesigned naira notes and crisis associated with rejection of old naira notes.
Police are however silent on the matter as no statement has emanated from the state police command.
Police, though, had earlier warned criminals to turn a new leaf or face the wrath of the law, vowing that it would continue to deal decisively with lawbreakers in its continued effort to protect the lives and properties of citizens in the state.
