Lucky Obukohwo, Reporting
A native doctor, Chukwuyem Jonah, 26, and two other persons have been paraded by the Edo State Police command over the death of one Faith Omodon, a 200-level student of Delta State University, Agbor.
The two other suspects are Godspower Chukwuedo, 23, and Christopher Nwachukwu, 22. They were arrested with the help of a vigilante group.
Recall that Faith was reported missing on May 1, 2024, after she failed to return from a farm in the Ewohon/Uwemen communities in Orhionmwion Local Government Area of the state where she had gone with a motorcycle.
According to the Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, while parading the suspects, said that the case was initially reported to the Abudu Division by the victim’s father, Edward Omodon.
Following a preliminary investigation, the case was transferred to the State CID, Benin, where two suspects were arrested with the help of a vigilante group.
CP Adegboye said that the suspects confessed to the police that they were hired by a native doctor, Chukwuyem Jonah, 26, who lives in the Iru community near Abudu, to kidnap Faith Omodon and demand a ransom from her supposed wealthy father.
He said they reportedly promised to pay the suspects N30,000 each for their services.
Adegboye added that the suspects further confessed that they were resisted by Faith Omodon, but they overpowered and strangled her to death.
On May 7, 2024, the police arrested the native doctor, Chukwuyem Jonah, in his house, and an investigation is ongoing to recover the victim’s corpse while the suspects will be charged to court for murder.
The CP further advised parents to be cautious about their children’s whereabouts just as he promised to rid the state off, of all criminal elements.
