Omobayo Godwins has stepped into the role of Deputy Governor with a firm commitment to supporting Governor Godwin Obaseki until the end of his term.
The 37-year-old, who assumed office following the impeachment of Philip Shaibu by the state assembly, expressed his unwavering loyalty during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today program which was duly monitored by Truth Live News.
Godwins, recognizing the significance of his new position, emphasized his readiness to abide by the directives of his principal, Governor Obaseki. “I won’t hesitate to do all that my principal instructs me to do,” he affirmed, underscoring his dedication to fulfilling his duties diligently.
When questioned about the perception of the deputy governorship role being relegated to a mere “spare tire,” Godwins displayed a pragmatic outlook, stating, “It’s okay with me. Life is a process.” He acknowledged that his elevation to the deputy governorship at a relatively young age has broadened his political horizons and expressed his willingness to learn on the job. “Whatever he says I should do is what I will do. He knows my strength,” he added, highlighting his deference to Governor Obaseki’s leadership.
Godwins was forthright in addressing the circumstances surrounding his appointment, noting that it was part of political strategies aimed at securing victory for his party. He asserted his confidence in possessing robust grassroots support, particularly from his base in Akoko Edo, which he believes will bolster the electoral prospects of Governor Obaseki and his party.
Regarding Shaibu’s impeachment, Godwins offered a succinct observation, remarking, “That is politics for you. Your job first of all is to be loyal.”
