AKWA IBOM, UYO – The Akwa Ibom State Government has declared Wednesday, September 23, 2026, a work-free day to enable citizens and residents participate fully in activities marking the 39th anniversary of the creation of the state.
In a statement signed by the state Commissioner for Information, Hon. Aniekan Umanah on Monday stated that Governor Umo Eno approved the work-free day in recognition of the significance of the anniversary and to provide residents an opportunity to celebrate the state’s 39-year journe
Made available by the Akwa Ibom State Government Chief Press Secretary Ekerete Udo on social media, the government said the declaration covers all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the state government, while the general public is also expected to take note and be guided accordingly.
The statement noted that the anniversary provides an opportunity for the people of Akwa Ibom to reflect on the state’s journey with gratitude to God for what it described as His “faithfulness, protection and blessings over the years.”
It urged the affected institutions and members of the public to take note of the declaration and make necessary arrangements ahead of Wednesday’s work-free day.
