Oroh Eyes Julius Ihonvere’s Seat, Says It Is Owan’s Turn

Lucky Obukohwo, Reporting

Abdul Oroh, a former lawmaker, has shown his interest to contest the Owan Federal Constituency seat in Edo North Senatorial District on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC)

Hon Oroh, from Ivbiaro, Owan East LGA, announced his bid at the NUJ secretariat in Benin, Edo State capital .

He is seeking to reclaim the seat he held from 2003 to 2007. The seat is currently represented by Prof Julius Ihonvere from Owan West, who’s rumored to be seeking a third term .

Oroh’s bid is backed by an unwritten zoning arrangement between Owan West and Owan East, which supposedly dictates that the seat should rotate to Owan East, having been held by Owan West for eight years.

APC leaders from Owan West and Owan East have already ruled out a third term for Ihonvere, citing the zoning arrangement .

Oroh’s entry into politics saw him elected as a member of the House of Representatives on the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) platform.

He later served as the longest serving commissioner in Adams Oshiomhole’s administration in Edo State.

He is a journalist and a trained lawyer and remains in active legal practice.
