The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest and detention of Benin City socialite Kelly Okungbowa, widely known as “Ebo Stone,” for allegedly assaulting a police officer who was carrying out lawful duties.

The Command said Okungbowa is currently in police custody and will be arraigned in court following the completion of investigations into the incident.

The arrest was reportedly ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika, after the alleged attack on the officer occurred on Saturday.

Confirming the incident on Sunday in Benin City, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, stated that the suspect would be prosecuted in accordance with the law for the alleged offence.

“Yes. Ebo Stone is in our custody for a serious assault on a police officer while performing his lawful duty. He will be arraigned accordingly,” Ikoedem stated.

Okungbowa, a controversial figure in Edo State, previously served as Coordinator of the Public Safety Response Team (PSRT) before his removal from office in March 2025, following multiple public complaints alleging extortion, harassment, and unruly conduct by personnel of the outfit.

Following his exit from the PSRT, he was appointed Edo South Youth Coordinator for Asiwaju 2027.

His latest arrest comes amid previous controversies, including allegations linking him to the assault of a female staff member of the Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS), Juliet Asein, at the Edo State Government House in Benin City.

Further indications showed that the police have begun legal proceedings against him as preparations for his arraignment gather builds up.

Was this relationship doomed from the start? 👀
