Omoyele Sowore and other activists are currently leading retired police officers in a protest in Abuja to demand improved welfare for personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.
The protest aimed to call for the immediate removal of retired police officers from the contributory pension scheme, which they described as “discriminatory.”
Truth Live News reports that the Nigerian Union of Retired Police Officers had vowed to picket the National Assembly complex and the Force Headquarters.
The Police Community Relations Committee had warned against the protest, calling it an attempt to discredit the Inspector General of Police and the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Despite the warning, Sowore and others have proceeded with the protest.
