Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted three siblings who were transporting the remains of their late mother from Abuja to Benue State.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday along the Ogobia–Otukpo Road in Benue State, where the armed men intercepted the victims and whisked them away.
A resident of the area, who requested anonymity, said the abduction happened between the communities of Omutele and Ankpechi along the Ogobia–Otukpo Road.
According to the source, both communities are located in Oglewu District of Ohimini Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State.
It was learnt that the siblings were conveying the remains of their mother, who died in Abuja, to Iklenyi community in Okpokwu LGA of Benue State for burial when they ran into the kidnappers.
It was further gathered that after the family embarked on the journey, their vehicle developed a fault, leaving them stranded on the road until about 2 a.m. before the incident occurred.
The Chairman of Ohimini LGA, Gabriel Adole, has confirmed the incident. Adole, who spoke to newsmen on the phone, said, “Yes, I’m going to the scene of the incident now to ascertain what really happened.”
Before this report was filed, efforts to reach the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, for comments were unsuccessful.
