Nigerian troops of Operation Hadin Kai, in collaboration with the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), decisively neutralised over 35 Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in a major operation around Kumshe, a border community in Borno State, on Saturday.
The operation, reported by Zagazola Makama, thwarted a daring ISWAP assault on military positions in the early hours, launched from the Gulumba Gana axis.
According to preliminary reports, the terrorists faced heavy losses during a coordinated ground and air response. “The successful ambush is part of the ongoing aggressive operations to deny terrorists freedom of movement, disrupt their logistics, and safeguard communities in the North East,” a source stated.
Field findings revealed that ISWAP evacuated eight to 10 injured fighters to the Zangeri camp near Gulumba Gana, while five bodies were buried hastily, and others were abandoned due to intense resistance from troops.
The NAF bolstered the ground efforts with precision air strikes along the Nigeria–Cameroon border, neutralising over 35 ISWAP fighters and halting their momentum. Despite the victory, the military suffered one soldier killed and two injured.
The operation shows the Theatre of Operation Hadin Kai’s relentless efforts to dismantle terrorist networks in the North East.
