Unknown armed bandits have killed a 52-year-old farmer, Yusuf Ayuba, in Layi village, Bassa district of Shiroro Local Government Area, Niger State, on August 31 at approximately 3:20 a.m.
The brutal attack has left the community reeling, as residents mourn the loss of a hardworking member of their village.
According to sources, the assailants stormed the village in the early hours, targeting Ayuba, a well-known farmer.
The bandits shot him dead, but the motive behind the attack remains unclear, and no group has claimed responsibility for the killing.
Operatives from the Erena Division and Shiroro Area Command swiftly responded, visiting the scene to assess the situation. They ensured the victim’s body was transported to a nearby hospital for formalities. Authorities have since launched a manhunt to track down the perpetrators, with sources stating that “efforts were ongoing to track down the perpetrators” to bring them to justice.
Residents are calling for increased security measures to protect vulnerable communities from such violent attacks.
