The Niger State government, under Governor Umaru Bago, has issued a serious warning to residents of Basa, located in the Shiroro Local Government Area, about an increasing threat of terrorist bombings in local farmlands urging the residents to limit their movements around the area to prevent possible casualties from potential explosions.
In a statement delivered in Minna, Truth Live News gathered that following the 2024 Base Socio-Cultural Activities (BASA) at the 013 Quick Response Force of the Nigerian Air Force, Commissioner for Homeland Security Bello Abdullahi confirmed that terrorist groups have begun planting bombs in the farms along the periphery of the area emphasizing that the military must first clear the affected areas of mines and explosives before residents can safely resume their daily activities.
The commissioner drew attention to the escalating threat posed by the terrorists, stressing the ongoing military operations designed to combat terrorism and banditry in the region reiterating that the government relies heavily on the military to neutralize the bomb threat in Shiroro, ensuring the safety of the local communities.
Further reinforcing this message, Group Captain Austine Idoko, commander of the 013 Quick Response Force, assured the public that military operations would continue under the guidance of the Chief of Air Staff to eliminate the terrorist threat and restore peace to the state.
The warning comes in the wake of a tragic incident on December 19, 2024, when three bomb explosions in the Bassa community of Shiroro resulted in the deaths of three individuals and left five others injured in which the Niger State government has called for increased vigilance and cooperation from residents as efforts to neutralize the threat continue.
