At a recent gathering in Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu Square, New Owerri, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State made a significant announcement regarding his political future. Ahead of the upcoming elections next month, Gov Hope Uzodinma pledged to hand over power and support any candidate emerging from Owerri Zone in 2027, aligning with the Imo Charter of Equity.

Governor Uzodimma urged the leaders of Owerri Zone to collaborate and ensure a seamless transition in 2027. He emphasized the overwhelming support he received from the zone during his re-election, which played a pivotal role in his commitment to uphold the principles of the Imo Charter of Equity.

The Imo Charter of Equity is rooted in principles of unity, peace, and fairness among the various zones within the state. The governor vowed to use his position and political networks to preserve and implement these principles, believing that unity within the zone would attract local and foreign investments, leading to prosperity, job creation, and a reduction in violence, benefiting not just Owerri Zone but the entirety of Imo State.

Governor Uzodimma also addressed the youth, urging them to reject violence and destructive behaviors, highlighting the destructive consequences of such actions and encouraging them to embrace peace for a brighter future.

Furthermore, he implored the leaders, youth, and women of Owerri Zone to discourage those who promote violence within Imo State, reaffirming his commitment to the Nigerian project and Imo State’s contribution to a united Nigeria.

During the event, numerous speakers expressed their support for Governor Uzodimma, recognizing his achievements in various sectors of the state. They commended his dedication and the broad support he enjoys from all local governments in Owerri Zone.

The Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Chief Henry Njoku, conveyed Owerri Zone’s unwavering faith in the governor and their strong belief in the implementation of the Charter of Equity, positioning the zone for the Governorship of Imo State in 2027.

A resolution, presented on behalf of the youth and women of Owerri Zone by Hon. Akarachi Amadi, affirmed their steadfast support for Governor Hope Uzodimma’s re-election bid, showing their appreciation by presenting an award to the governor and his wife, Barr. (Mrs.) Chioma Uzodimma.

Governor Uzodimma’s pursuit of a second term faces strong opposition, including the emergence of the South East Labour Party, the formidable candidacy of Sam Anyanwu, the former PDP secretary, and the silence of his predecessor, Senator Rochas Okorocha. The results in six weeks will reveal whether Owerri trusts his commitment and honors this agreement, and the future will determine if his promise was merely a campaign trick to secure votes.
