The Onogie of Udo-Eguare, a revered traditional ruler from Edo Central, was successfully rescued by operatives of the Edo State Police Command on Friday evening, following his abduction on February 3.
Truth Live News gathered that CSP Moses Yamu, the Public Relations Officer for the Edo State Police, announced the successful operation in a statement released on Saturday in Benin, the state capital. The rescue occurred around 6 pm, highlighting the effectiveness of a collaborative effort involving the police, the Edo State Government, vigilantes, hunters, and numerous community members.
According to Yamu, “The rescue was made possible through sustained police efforts, supported by the Edo State Government, vigilantes, hunters, and other well-meaning residents of the state.” He further noted that the Commissioner of Police, CP Betty Otimenyin, had committed to the safe return of the traditional ruler, and her team worked tirelessly to fulfill that promise.
The police spokesperson extended gratitude to the state government for their logistic support, crediting Governor Monday Okpebholo‘s assistance as pivotal to the operation’s success. Yamu also expressed appreciation for the community’s involvement, stating, “The command equally appreciates the vigilantes, hunters, and other well-meaning residents of the State for their support so far.”
He concluded by affirming the police’s unwavering commitment to combating crime in the region, assuring the public, “The general public is assured that the command’s commitment to the fight against crime remains unshaken.”
