The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has successfully rescued Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Modestus Ojiebe, who was kidnapped by armed men along Kubwa Expressway in Abuja late Sunday night, restoring relief to his family and colleagues.
FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, announced the breakthrough in a Monday statement, confirming that the officer “had been safely reunited with his family.” She detailed the rapid response that led to his rescue: “Upon receiving the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Dawaki Division acted swiftly, leading his patrol team while alerting all police checkpoints and key entry and exit points into the FCT. This decisive response enabled the successful rescue of the officer on the same night.”
The dramatic abduction occurred when Ojiebe’s Toyota Corolla broke down near Dei-Dei Barracks, as reported by Zagazola Makama. An ash-colored Mercedes-Benz carrying four armed men pulled up, and the assailants “searched and robbed Ojiebe and his wife of their mobile phones and ATM cards.” Upon discovering his police identity card, they forced him into their vehicle and fled, abandoning his wife and car.
The kidnappers later ditched Ojiebe in the bush in Garaku, Nasarawa State, as police pressure mounted. The FCT Police have since intensified stop-and-search operations across entry and exit points, with efforts ongoing “to track down the suspects” who remain at large. The rescue underscores the force’s resolve to protect its own and curb crime in the capital.
