The Katsina State Police Command foiled a kidnapping attempt along the Funtua–Mahuta road in Dandume Local Government Area on Friday night, successfully rescuing eight victims, though one passenger was tragically confirmed dead.
According to Zagazola Makama, yet-to-be-identified armed men launched a violent ambush on a moving Golf vehicle, bearing the registration number EDT 693 AA, opening fire in an apparent attempt to abduct the occupants.
The attack caused the driver to lose control, sending the vehicle careening into a nearby farmland.
Sources detailed the rapid response of the police, stating, “APC patrol teams promptly responded, cordoned off the area and engaged the hoodlums in an exchange of fire, thereby rescuing eight victims unhurt.” The operation showcased the police’s readiness to counter such threats in the region.
The encounter was not without casualties as three passengers sustained various degrees of gunshot injuries and were immediately rushed to General Hospital, Dandume, for treatment. Tragically, one of the injured succumbed to their wounds, as confirmed by hospital authorities. The sources further noted that search and rescue operations are ongoing to locate other passengers who may have scattered into nearby farms during the chaos of the attack.
