Gov. Eno Woos Defectors with Promises of Good Governance, Unity in Akwa Ibom

In a bid to regain the support of key political parties’ members, including the State APC Publicity Secretary, Nkereuwem Enyongekere, Governor Umo Bassey Eno of Akwa Ibom State has embarked on a campaign aimed at reassuring them of better prospects within the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Governor Eno, speaking at a gathering where he received thousands of defectors from various political parties into the PDP fold, emphasized his commitment to providing essential amenities and opportunities for the people of Akwa Ibom.

He pledged to prioritize job creation and ensure that the youth are gainfully engaged.

Additionally, he announced the distribution of free food through palliatives as part of his administration’s efforts to alleviate hardship among the populace.

Addressing the gathering at the Ibom Hall Grounds in Uyo, Governor Eno cautioned against clandestine meetings and urged the new supporters to remain steadfast in their allegiance to the PDP.

He warned against falling prey to deceptive invitations, emphasizing the need for unity and vigilance.

Governor Eno, known for his inclusive leadership style, emphasized the importance of respecting all levels of authority, including leaders from opposing political parties.

He underscored the need for constructive engagement and discouraged attacks on political figures, emphasizing a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect.

Furthermore, Governor Eno highlighted his commitment to maintaining peace and stability in Akwa Ibom State, emphasizing the role of dialogue and collaboration in driving development.

Also, he assured the defectors of his administration’s dedication to delivering on its promises and urged them to contribute to the progress of the state.

The State PDP Chairman, Elder Aniekan Akpan, welcomed the defectors and urged them to actively participate in the party’s activities to ensure its continued growth and expansion.

Nevertheless, Dr Godwin Ntukudeh, the Political Adviser to the Governor, presented a register of over 40,000 new political party members, indicating a significant influx of support into the PDP.

Meanwhile, among the notable defectors were former officeholders and political figures, including Rt Hon. Emmanuel Ukoette, Hon. Samuel Effanga.

Others include Ubong Edem, Barrister Abasiono Udonfuk, and Hon. Mabel Udongwo, highlighting the diverse backgrounds of those aligning with the PDP.

The defectors, formerly associated with parties such as the All Progressives Congress (APC), Young Progressives Party (YPP), New Nigerian People’s Party (NNDP), and Social Democratic Party (SDP).

They have signaled their confidence in Governor Eno’s leadership and the vision of the PDP for Akwa Ibom State.

As Governor Eno continues to consolidate support and foster unity within the party.

His efforts underscored a commitment to inclusive governance and the promotion of peace and development in Akwa Ibom State.
