Desmond Elliot Withdraws from APC Primary, Cites Intimidation

Lawmaker Desmond Elliot has pulled out of the All Progressives Congress (All Progressives Congress) primary election for the Surulere 1 constituency in the Lagos State House of Assembly, raising concerns over alleged intimidation.

He made this known on Wednesday at the Paddington mini stadium along Western Avenue, where the primary was taking place. Elliot said many of his supporters were denied entry into the venue despite multiple attempts to get electoral officials to grant them access.

According to him, the situation involved deliberate efforts to block and intimidate his supporters across different areas. He pointed out that a large number of his followers remained outside the venue, unable to participate in the process.

After announcing his withdrawal, his supporters responded with a peaceful protest before leaving the venue together with him.

Elliot explained that his decision was partly to avoid any breakdown of order, noting that no political ambition should come at the cost of human lives. He also called on party leadership to ensure that future primary elections are conducted in a fair and credible manner.
