Following its success at the Edo State local government elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has extended an invitation to its political opponents and other stakeholders to put aside partisan differences and work with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration towards the continued development and advancement of the state.
The State Chairman of the party, Jarret Tenebe, made the appeal in Benin on Monday during a press briefing where he addressed journalists on the outcome of the local government polls held on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
Tenebe described the victory as a mandate from the people of Edo State, stressing that the APC remains committed to inclusive governance.
He urged all stakeholders to bring their experience, ideas, and support to bear in building a more prosperous and united state.
The Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC), led by its Chairman, Jonathan Aifuobhokhan, declared the APC winner of all 18 chairmanship positions and 192 councillorship seats in the election.
Speaking further on the outcome of the local government polls, Tenebe said the “historic victory was yet another confirmation that the people of Edo State believe in the leadership and vision of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Monday Okpebholo.”
“It also reinforces our conviction that the commitment we made to deliver 2.5 million votes to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 Presidential Election is not only achievable but firmly within our reach,” he added.
Tenebe, who disclosed that the APC secured a total of 2,158,600 votes in the local government elections contested by 12 other political parties, said: “To those who did not emerge victorious, I extend a hand of fellowship. Elections come and go, but the development of Edo State is a shared responsibility.
“The time for political contests is over; the time for unity, reconciliation, and collective progress has begun.
“We invite all well-meaning Edo people to join hands with Monday Okpebholo as we continue to build a stronger, and more prosperous Edo State.”
Meanwhile, earlier, the 18 local government chairmen declared winners had been presented certificates of return by the Chairman of EDSIEC, Jonathan Aifuobhokhan.
