The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been plunged into mourning following the death of its former State Chairman and serving National Vice Chairman, South-South, Chief (Dr.) Dan Osi Orbih.
In a statement jointly signed by the State Chairman, Nosa Ogieva-Okunbor, and State Secretary, Hillary Otsu, the party described Orbih’s death as a devastating and monumental loss to the PDP, Edo State, the South-South region and Nigeria at large.
The party said Orbih’s passing had robbed the political class of one of its most formidable and influential figures, whose decades of service, political sagacity, resilience and commitment to democratic ideals left an indelible mark on the nation’s political landscape.
It said his contributions to the growth and strengthening of the PDP, particularly in Edo State and the South-South, were immeasurable, stressing that his absence would be deeply felt by party members, political associates and admirers across the country.
The Edo PDP commiserated with Orbih’s family, friends, political associates and the entire PDP family, praying for the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss and for the peaceful repose of his soul.
Chief Orbih, who spent decades in political and public service, served as Chairman of the PDP in Edo State before rising to the position of National Vice Chairman, South-South.
The Edo PDP described him as a distinguished statesman whose decades of service and commitment to democratic governance, party unity and political development left an enduring mark on the state and the country.
According to the party, Orbih’s contribution to public leadership extended beyond partisan politics, with his influence reaching communities, institutions and generations of Nigerians.
“His passing represents the loss of a formidable political leader and elder whose voice, experience and dedication played an important role in the growth of democratic practice within the South-South and across Nigeria,” the statement said.
The party commiserated with the late politician’s family, associates and members of the PDP, while urging the public to respect the family’s privacy during the period of mourning.
The party further disclosed that details of the funeral arrangements and other activities would be announced by the family in due course.
The statement ended with a tribute to the late political leader: “May his gentle soul rest in peace.”
