…Says Security Agents Must Protect Collation Centres Across the State
The Imole Campaign Council has raised the alarm over an alleged plan by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare the ongoing Osun Governorship election inconclusive.
The campaign council, in a statement signed by Rep. Bamidele Salam, Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee of the Imole Campaign Council, alleged that the move was aimed at frustrating the victory of Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke of the Accord.
According to the statement, the alleged move was being coordinated by several governors and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as a last-minute attempt to hijack the candidate’s victory and subvert the will of the people of Osun State.
The campaign council condemned what it described as an “evil and undemocratic plan” and reminded the INEC National Chairman of his previous commitments to ensuring that the Osun Governorship election is free, fair and credible.
It also called on INEC, the APC and security agencies to adhere to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to ensure that the election is not compromised, noting that the poll would serve as a litmus test for the 2027 General Election.
The council further appealed to the Inspector-General of Police, Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other security agencies to immediately provide adequate security at all collation centres across the state.
It alleged that hoodlums hired by the APC could attempt to disrupt the electoral process and called for measures to prevent any such occurrence.
The campaign council also expressed concern over the alleged hijacking of ballot boxes in some polling units, calling for the arrest and prosecution of those responsible.
“Local and international observers are hereby invited to take note of this information and speak out on the side of the law and people of Osun State at this hour,” the statement added.
