The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State has purged itself of 30 of its members for dragging the party to court without first exhausting internal options for resolving disputes or disagreements.
This is even as it also inaugurated its newly elected chairmen who would pilot the affairs of the party in the 21 Local Government Areas of the state for the next four years.
Dr. Iyke Oliobi, Publicity Secretary of the party in the state, while briefing journalists on the outcome of the state executive committee meeting in Awka, said that the party members’ expulsion was in line with Article 21 sub-article 5 of its constitution.
He said that some of the expelled members were National Assembly aspirants, and that by virtue of their expulsion would not be allowed to participate in the party’s upcoming primary polls.
“The party discussed those that took the party to court and many of them are contesting for the House of Representatives’ tickets of the party.
“The matter comes up tomorrow and the SEC maintained that what the party constitution stipulated would be followed; and that it is outright expulsion from the party under Article 21 sub 5.
“The SEC actually ratified their expulsion because they did not exhaust all the avenues of the party to resolve their problems”, he said.
The state publicity secretary, however, said that the party could recall the expelled members if they withdrew the lawsuits from the courts.
“It is only when the matters are withdrawn from the court that the party can consider listening to them” Oliobi said.
He added that the party was ready to contest the 2027 election and win, saying that the party leadership was confident that the APC would win some of the National Assembly seats.
“In the case of those that are contesting for the tickets of the Federal House of Representatives, the 11 positions have aspirants but in the case of the Senate we have the three positions being contested for and the Screening Committees were here to perform their duties” he said.
The party also ratified the appointment of a five-man Primary Elections Committee headed by Sir Izuchukwu Okeke who is the State Organizing Secretary of the party.
