NDC Affirms Party Supremacy, Approves Code of Conduct Committee

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced a series of resolutions aimed at strengthening internal party structures, promoting accountability, and reinforcing party supremacy as part of efforts to institutionalise the party.

The resolutions were contained in a statement issued on Sunday, June 7, 2026, by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, following the second meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC).

According to the party, the measures are designed to build a strong and enduring political institution while ensuring that governments elected on its platform remain accountable to party structures.

“The NDC is committed to building the party as a strong and enduring institution, with emphasis on party supremacy,” the statement said.

The party maintained that programmes, policies and appointments of governments elected on its platform, except for personal staff appointments, must be made in consultation with the party structure.

It added that members are expected to subordinate personal interests to the collective objectives of the party, stressing that party decisions and interests must take precedence over individual ambitions.

As part of efforts to streamline operations, the NDC directed that all affiliated groups and non-governmental organisations operate under the guidance and control of the party and not independently of its structure.

The NEC also approved the development of a comprehensive Code of Conduct for party officials and candidates. To achieve this, a committee headed by the National Legal Adviser has been constituted to develop the framework and implementation guidelines.

In addition, the party announced the inauguration of a National Reconciliation Committee to engage aggrieved members and foster unity within its ranks.

The NDC reiterated that it is being built as a long-term political institution rather than a platform driven by individual ambitions, while also pledging strict financial accountability and transparency in the management of party resources.

The party further directed that all funds raised by candidates and contributions made to campaign accounts mustfully disclosed through designated party channels as part of efforts to strengthen internal democracy and accountability.
