Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has alleged that soldiers are attempting to prevent him from entering Osun State as the state holds its governorship election on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
Davido made the allegation in a post on his verified X account in the early hours of Saturday.
“I’ve been reliably informed that soldiers are trying to prevent me from entering Osun tomorrow. This won’t happen. Every citizen of Nigeria has the right to movement at any point in time,” he wrote.
The allegation came hours after the Nigeria Police Force announced a restriction of movement across Osun State from 12:00am on Friday, August 14, until 6:00pm on Saturday, August 15, as part of security measures for the governorship election.
The restriction is part of broader security arrangements for the poll, which include the deployment of thousands of police officers and personnel from other security agencies across the state.
Davido, who is a nephew of incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, has actively campaigned for his uncle, the Accord Party candidate, ahead of the election.
Adeleke is seeking re-election against candidates including the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and others in the off-cycle election.
Davido’s post generated significant reactions on social media, with some users attributing any restrictions on his movement to the general election-day security measures, while others questioned whether he was being specifically targeted.
Reacting to the singer’s claim, former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad described it as “dramatic” and pointed to the already announced movement restriction across the state.
“You are just dramatic, @davido. It has been widely announced by the security operators that movement in and around Osun will be restricted from 12 midnight today until 6pm today due to the election and this is a standard security measure during elections anywhere, not peculiar to Osun,” Ahmad wrote.
He added that the constitutional right to freedom of movement did not exempt individuals from lawful security measures introduced to protect the electoral process.
