Otti Expresses Confidence in Second Term, Vows to Complete Projects

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has expressed confidence that he will secure a second term and complete his administration’s projects.

Otti spoke on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at his office while receiving members of the Old Students Association of the Federal School of Arts and Science, Aba, who visited him and voiced support for his re-election.

The governor said discussions around the 2027 elections would not distract his administration from governance, noting that the people of Abia would ultimately decide based on performance.

“Primaries will happen within the month and elections will be next year, but Abia people know what is good for them,” he said. “We are confident that we will complete the project that we have been asked to do by Abians.”

He added that the state’s progress aligns with divine purpose, stressing that ongoing projects would not be abandoned.

Otti also commended the association for its decision to renovate a hostel in their alma mater, describing the initiative as commendable and encouraging members to sustain their contributions to the school’s development.

He thanked the group for choosing Abia as the venue for its bi-annual meeting, describing the decision as significant.

On infrastructure, the governor said his administration’s support for Professor Bart Nnaji’s Aba Power project was aimed at ensuring stable electricity supply across the state.

He disclosed that the state had signed an agreement and was at the payment stage to acquire the Umuahia ring-fenced area of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company. He explained that the plan would enable the extension of power from Aba to the remaining eight local government areas in Abia Central and Abia North.

According to him, the Geometric Power plant has the capacity to generate up to 188 megawatts with an additional turbine, which would help meet the state’s electricity needs.

Otti added that the establishment of the Abia State Electricity Regulatory Agency would allow the state to manage its power sector independently of the national grid.

Earlier, the President of the association, Tony Ejieji, commended the governor’s performance, noting improvements in security and infrastructure across the state.

He said the group chose Abia for its meeting due to the improved safety environment, adding that members were also contributing to development through the renovation of a hostel in their former school.

The meeting was attended by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education and other government officials.
