Four federal lawmakers from Kano State have formally defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The mass exit, announced today, involves prominent representatives: Hon. Sani Wakili (Minjibir/Ungogo), Hon. Muktar Zakari (Tarauni), Hon. Umar Datti (Kura/Madobi/Garun Mallam), and Hon. Abdulhakeem Ado (Wudil/Garko). Their departure marks the latest in a wave of defections rocking the House of Representatives as parties jostle for supremacy ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The lawmakers, who were elected on the NNPP platform closely associated with Kano’s influential Kwankwasiyya movement led by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, are said to have cited internal disagreements and a desire for stronger national alignment as reasons for their switch.
This development comes as the ADC positions itself as an emerging force in Nigerian politics. The party has been actively consolidating support, recently debunking rumors of alliances with other groups while navigating its own internal leadership disputes.
