There was a moment of panic in Osun State on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, after a podium carrying Governor Ademola Adeleke and other dignitaries suddenly collapsed during a political rally in Ijebu-Jesa.
A video of the incident showed the governor, Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, and the spokesperson for the Imole Campaign Council, Pelumi Olajengbesi, among those seated on the platform when it caved in.
The collapse occurred while musical performances were underway. The event anchor had just concluded one segment and was about to introduce the next item on the programme when the structure suddenly gave way, triggering panic among attendees.
A source at the venue, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to comment publicly, said the incident briefly disrupted proceedings before security personnel evacuated those affected from the debris.
“The incident happened during the inauguration of Imole canvassers for the Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency in Ijebu-Jesa on Wednesday. The crowd was quite large, and the governor, alongside some cabinet members, was seated on the section of the podium that collapsed,” the source said.
He added that no casualties were recorded and that the rally resumed shortly afterwards, with Adeleke later addressing supporters.
“There was no loss of life. The programme continued, and the governor went on to speak at the event after the incident,” he added.
Reacting to the development, the Deputy Spokesperson to the Governor, Oladele Bamiji, downplayed concerns over the collapse, insisting that no one was injured.
“The event continued smoothly with the governor and members of his cabinet in attendance. There were no injuries or casualties.
“If there had been any serious accident, the programme would not have gone on as scheduled. After leaving the venue, the governor proceeded to another engagement in Odo-Otin Local Government Area,” Bamiji said.
