Portugal Appoint Martinez As New Head Coach

The Portuguese Football Federation have appointed a new head coach, Roberto Martinez following the sack of former manager, Fernando Santos after a shocking crash from the 2022 World Cup quarter-final in Qatar.

The former Belgium coach and Spanish national have pledge his commitment to the managerial appointment.

Martinez appreciated the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) as he described the team as one of the best teams in the world.

The Spaniard added that he will work hand-in-hand with former Real Madrid forward and Portugal star, Cristiano Ronaldo and every other member of the team to ensure the team is taken to a new height.

He said, “I am delighted to be able to represent one of the most talented teams in the world.

“I want to contact all 26 players who were at the last World Cup … Cristiano is a player on that list,” he said.

“I understand there are great expectations … but I also understand there is a very large team [at the FFF] … and together we will achieve our goals.”

Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) President Fernando Gomes appreciated Martinez for honoring their invitation to manage the national team.

He said, “I appreciate the enthusiasm and ambition with which he [Martinez] received the invitation,”

“This is an important moment for the national team,” he added.
