The Archbishop of Ibadan Province, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Most Rev’d Williams Oluwarotimi Aladekugbe has tasked political leaders at all levels in the country to prioritise the welfare of the citizens by reducing their hunger, pains and insecurity.
He gave the task in the New Year’s sermon, which he delivered on Sunday at the Cathedral of St. Peter, Aremo, Ibadan.
Aladekugbe, who also is the Bishop of Ibadan North Anglican Diocese, prayed that Nigerians, especially those in positions of authority, would embody the spirit of brotherhood and service in this year and beyond.
He also delivered an uplifting message of hope and faith, proclaiming that only God holds the power to shape destinies of people.
“No body can stop the progress of their fellow men and women,” he declared, reinforcing the belief that God is the Almighty determinant of our paths.
Drawing inspiration from St. Matthew 2:12, Aladekugbe, in a statement issued by Solomon Olugbemiga Ayoade, the Ibadan North Anglican Diocesan Communicator, recounted the biblical tale of King Herod’s sinister plan to kill Jesus. He emphasised how divine intervention thwarted the king’s intentions.
He stated that the significance of the gifts of gold, incense, and myrrh presented to Jesus at His birth, symbolised His roles as king, priest, and the promise of preservation.
Aladekugbe urged the congregation to give their hearts and time to God, saying that enduring life’s challenges is part of their spiritual journey.
“God is in full control,” he reassured, encouraging individuals to remain steadfast in faith.
