Security has been tightened at the Rivers House of Assembly in Port Harcourt as lawmakers resume sitting under the leadership of Martin Amaewhule.

The Speaker released a notice for the sitting on Monday morning, following the Supreme Court’s order on Friday for the Amaewhule-led faction to resume sitting without hindrance.

The court’s ruling was a significant development, as it dismissed the cross-appeal filed by Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, challenging the validity of the House of Assembly led by Amaewhule.

The Supreme Court also barred the Central Bank of Nigeria and other agencies from releasing funds to the Rivers State government until it complies with court orders.

On Monday morning, multiple squads of policemen and operatives of the Department of State Services were deployed to the Assembly Complex.

Although the agenda for Monday’s plenary is unclear, it may be related to local government administration issues in Rivers State.
