The Kano State Government has clarified that Muhammadu Sanusi II remains the 16th Emir of Kano, despite the Court of Appeal’s ruling on the state emirship tussle.

According to Barrister Haruna Isa Dederi, Kano State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, the Appeal Court’s decision does not invalidate Sanusi’s reinstatement.

Dederi explained that the Court of Appeal had previously reaffirmed the Kano State government’s power to reappoint Sanusi in a landmark verdict on January 10, 2025.

He maintained that only the Supreme Court has the authority to set aside the Appeal Court’s decision.

The Appeal Court’s recent ruling maintained the status quo, pending the Supreme Court’s judgment on the matter.

Dederi noted that this decision does not quash the earlier judgment, which remains standing and subsisting.

Truth Live News recalls that the dispute over the Kano Emirate throne began when Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf dissolved the newly created emirates and reinstated Sanusi on May 23, 2024.

The development has since sparked legal battles, with Alhaji Aminu Baba Dan Agundi, one of the kingmakers, filing a suit against the Kano State House of Assembly and others.
