A notorious Lakurawa kingpin, Maigemu, was gunned down on Thursday by a combined team of security operatives and local vigilance group members in Kuncin Baba, Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The elimination of the bandit leader follows a fierce shootout in the remote, rugged terrain, marking a significant victory in the fight against crime in the region.

Intelligence sources confirmed to Zagazola Makama that Maigemu’s death comes just one week after Governor Nasir Idris visited the Bagiza and Rausa Kade communities to console residents over the murder of six people by suspected Lakurawa cattle rustlers. “During the governor’s visit, he assured the affected communities of immediate security reinforcement and strategic measures to tackle criminal activities in the area,” the sources recounted. “Today, his proactive approach has yielded results with the elimination of this kingpin. His corpse is available as evidence.”

The operation underscores the intensified efforts by Kebbi authorities to curb the activities of the Lakurawa, a criminal group notorious for cattle rustling and violence. Maigemu’s neutralization is seen as a direct response to the governor’s pledge, offering a glimmer of hope to communities long plagued by insecurity in the state’s remote areas.
