Six Dead in Tragic Lekki-Epe Expressway Crash

A tragic motor accident has claimed the lives of six passengers and left several others injured on Monday along the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Ibeju Town, Lagos State.

The collision, which occurred around 11:25 a.m., involved a Volvo truck (SMK-645-XY) driven by Taiwo Omole and a Mazda bus (AKD-336-YD) carrying 14 passengers.

According to Zagazola Makama, the truck driver allegedly lost control, leading to a fatal crash with the bus. “Six passengers died on the spot, while the others sustained severe injuries,” Makama reported.

The injured were promptly rescued and rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Epe Town for urgent medical attention.

Traffic personnel responded swiftly, visiting the scene and the hospital to assess the situation.

They photographed the injured victims and ensured the bodies of the deceased were transported to the hospital morgue for autopsy. “The driver of the truck has been arrested, and the vehicles involved were recovered to the station for investigation,” police authorities confirmed, adding that the investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the accident.

The tragic incident has raised renewed concerns about road safety on the busy Lekki-Epe Expressway, a critical route in Lagos.

Authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such tragedies.

The police have assured the public that a thorough investigation will uncover the circumstances leading to the crash, as the community mourns the loss of lives.
