Nigeria’s sprint hurdler, Tobi Amusan, claimed the bronze medal in the women’s 100 metres hurdles at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games on Thursday, July 30, 2026, bringing her reign as Commonwealth champion to an end.
Amusan, who won back to back gold medals at the Gold Coast 2018 and Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, was aiming to become the first woman to win three consecutive Commonwealth titles in the event.
The 29 year old crossed the finish line in 12.60 seconds to secure third place in the final.
The Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton won the gold medal in 12.33 seconds, while Jamaica’s Megan Simmonds claimed silver after posting 12.41 seconds.
Earlier on Thursday, Amusan had fuelled hopes of defending her title after producing a dominant display in the heats, winning her race in a wind assisted 12.19 seconds.
Although the time was not eligible for record purposes because of excessive wind assistance, it was the fastest performance ever recorded at the Commonwealth Games under any conditions.
However, the Nigerian could not reproduce that form in the final as Charlton and Simmonds finished ahead of her.
Despite missing out on a historic third consecutive Commonwealth title, Amusan extended her impressive record at the Games by securing a third straight podium finish in the women’s 100 metres hurdles.
