The Team Asue Media Organization (TAMO) has vehemently condemned what it describes as a “campaign of calumny” by Jarrett Tenebe, Acting Chairman of the Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
TAMO, in a strongly worded statement issued in Benin City on Wednesday, dismissed Tenebe’s allegations against Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the September 21 governorship election, as “tissues of unfounded and defamatory claims.”
Signed by Erhabor Emokpae, TAMO’s statement categorically refuted accusations that Dr. Ighodalo “stole 21 government vehicles” and improperly “awarded business” to his law firm, Banwo & Ighodalo. The organization labeled the allegations as “outrageous, unsubstantiated, and a desperate attempt to smear a reputable public servant.”
TAMO clarified that Alaghodaro, a private-sector initiative chaired by Dr. Ighodalo, operates independently of the government. Contrary to Tenebe’s assertions, the initiative has been instrumental in fostering economic growth and attracting private investment to Edo State.
“Under Mr. Ighodalo’s leadership, Alaghodaro facilitated partnerships that brought tangible benefits to Edo State. Throughout his tenure, he personally funded all his expenses and never received allowances or emoluments,” the statement read.
The organization also emphasized that Dr. Ighodalo’s law firm, Banwo & Ighodalo, secures its mandates strictly on merit, maintaining a reputation for professionalism and ethical integrity. “The claim that Mr. Ighodalo misappropriated government property is not only false but absurd,” TAMO added.
In response to Tenebe’s continued allegations, Banwo & Ighodalo has expanded ongoing defamation proceedings to include new claims made during a recent interview. The lawsuit targets not only Tenebe but also members of the Edo State Government Vehicle and Asset Recovery Committee for their alleged roles in propagating these “malicious fabrications.”
TAMO revealed that previous attempts to resolve the matter amicably were rebuffed by Tenebe, who chose to escalate the allegations. The organization expressed confidence that legal action would hold those responsible accountable and restore Dr. Ighodalo’s reputation.
TAMO concluded its statement with an appeal for truth and integrity in public discourse. “Misinformation and baseless accusations undermine public trust and damage democratic institutions. We urge Nigerians to reject these tactics and focus on the facts,” it said.
