Tragic Death of University Student Not Linked to Religious Issue – Police

The Katsina State Police Command has issued a statement in response to unsubstantiated news circulating on social media regarding the tragic death of a 200-level student in the computer science department of the Federal University of Dutsinma. The incident, which has been the subject of intense speculation, was initially linked to a purported religious issue.

 

In an effort to provide clarity and dispel any rumors or misconceptions surrounding the incident, the police command has undertaken a thorough investigation. According to the statement released by the police spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the following details have emerged:

 

“On September 28, 2023, at about 1320 hrs, a tragic incident occurred at Darawa quarters, Dutsinma LGA, Katsina State, involving eight (8) students of the Federal University Dutsinma. The incident was the result of a heated altercation between the students over a relationship with a fellow female student, which escalated tragically, leading to the death of one of the students involved.

 

“The Command takes this matter very seriously and is currently conducting a thorough investigation to determine the facts surrounding the incident, as six (6) of the students in connection with the incident have been arrested. We are working diligently to gather and analyze all available evidence, including eyewitness testimonies, with the aim of establishing a comprehensive understanding of the events that transpired while upholding the principles of justice and fairness.

 

“As the investigation progresses, updates will be shared with the public to ensure transparency. We encourage any individual with relevant information about the incident that will assist the investigation to step forward, as all information received will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.

 

“The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, psc+, while calling on the general public to remain calm, extends his deepest condolences to the family and friends affected by this tragedy and the management of Federal University Dutsinma. We convey our sympathies and support during this difficult time”, the police said.
