Carlo Ancelotti has brushed aside concerns of over-reliance on Jude Bellingham’s goal-scoring prowess following a goalless draw between Real Madrid and Rayo Vallecano in LaLiga on Sunday.

The Santiago Bernabeu witnessed its first scoreless match of the season, leaving Real Madrid second in the league, trailing surprising leaders Girona by two points.

Jude Bellingham, who boasts an impressive tally of 10 goals in just 11 LaLiga appearances this season, played the entire 90 minutes but sustained an injury when he awkwardly fell in the first half, requiring medical attention. Ancelotti addressed this concern in his post-match press conference, stating that Bellingham would undergo assessments on his shoulder injury on Monday. The hope is that the injury is not severe, allowing him to participate in Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Braga.

In response to questions about the team’s dependence on Bellingham’s scoring abilities, Ancelotti asserted that Real Madrid possesses a wealth of goal-scoring talent within their squad. He believes that the team can adapt to any scenario, whether Bellingham is unable to find the net or is temporarily sidelined.

The manager expressed, “No. We have a lot of resources.” He noted the various attacking options within the squad, including Fede Valverde, Vinícius Junior, Joselu, and Rodrygo Goes, who all had opportunities to score against Rayo Vallecano.

Although Real Madrid had 22 attempts on goal in the match, only five were on target, resulting in an expected goals (xG) value of 2.05. Despite their numerous attempts, they failed to break down their opponents.

Ancelotti remained optimistic, acknowledging that such results can occur in football. He emphasized the importance of maintaining belief and determination until the final whistle, as the players did against Rayo Vallecano.

“We’re hurt by the result, but not by the game,” Ancelotti stated. “We deserved to win.” He reaffirmed the team’s strong position in the league and their commendable performance in the Champions League.

Real Madrid’s upcoming schedule includes a Champions League encounter with Braga on Wednesday, followed by a LaLiga fixture against Valencia on Saturday, before the international break.
