Mohbad’s Father, Widow Set for Supervised DNA Test Process — Court

The Lagos State High Court, Ikorodu Judicial Division has approved three international laboratories to conduct DNA tests aimed at determining the paternity of Liam, the son of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba (Mohbad).

The decision was reached during the resumed hearing of the paternity dispute between the singer’s father, Joseph Aloba, and Mohbad’s widow, Wunmi Aloba, at the court sitting in Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

Counsel to Mohbad’s father informed journalists after proceedings that the court selected three DNA laboratory centres ; two located in the United Kingdom and one in the United States.

According to him, one laboratory was nominated by each party, while the court independently approved a neutral facility to ensure transparency and credibility in the testing process.

He further disclosed that arrangements would be made with welfare officers to supervise the collection of samples, adding that representatives of all parties involved would be present during the exercise to guarantee fairness and proper monitoring.

The court subsequently adjourned the matter to April 7 for an update on the sampling process and compliance with its directives.

Liam’s paternity has remained a subject of public dispute following the death of Mohbad on September 27, 2023. Joseph Aloba had earlier insisted that the late singer’s remains should not be finally laid to rest until the DNA test establishing the child’s paternity is concluded.

The outcome of the court-ordered test is expected to play a significant role in resolving ongoing family and legal controversies surrounding the late artiste’s estate and burial.
